Acupuncture and Pregnancy Acupuncuncture can alleviate symptoms which are often classed as normal during pregnancy. These are: back pain, nausea, heart burn, pelvic pain, oedema and varicose veins. Other problems that can be treated are: constipation, anaemia, itching, pregnancy induced hypertension, anxiety and depression. Also, after the pregnancy, acupuncture can help with: insufficient lactation, wound healing and scar tissue repair.
At week 34-35, acupuncture can have a significant effect in helping to re-position breech or posterior babies into the optimal position prior to birth.
At week 36-37, pre-birth treatments given at weekly intervals will help to prepare the body for labour. Other benefits include an improvement in the women's state of wellbeing and an increased chance of an efficient labour.
When your baby is overdue and an induction date has been set, acupuncture can be an effective alternative to a medical intervention.
Acupressure (using thumb or finger pressure on specific points on the body) is a safe and accessible technique that can be taught to the birthing partner to use during labour. Your practitioner will demonstrate the points until you and your birthing partner feel confident with the technique.
Pre-Birth Packages are available at Mandarin Clinic and make a wonderful gift for the mum-to-be. The package includes: 3 pre-birth treatments, a one-to-one acupressure treatment and a postnatal care treatment. |
