Acupuncture and Fertility

About 1 in 6 couples experience fertility problems.

Infertility can arise from female reproductive problems (irregular or absent menses, endomitriosis, polycystic ovary syndrome, etc.); male reproductive problems (low sperm count, ejaculation problems, etc.) or a combination of both. In some cases, infertility remains unexplained.

Acupuncture stimulates the body's own healing systems and helps to restore natural rhythms. Lifestyle and nutrition are also taken into consideration, as is emotional wellbeing.

Acupuncture can be used on its own or in combination with fertility treatments such as IVF (In Vitro Fertilisation) or IUI (Intra Uterine Insemination).

A research study published in the British Medical Journal (February 2008) concluded that 'Acupuncture given with embryo transfer improves rates of pregnancy and live birth among women undergoing in vitro fertilisation'.

Acupuncture is therefore often a choice of treatment prior to and immediately after embryo transfer.

As the process of fertility treatment can be taxing on both the body and mind, acupuncture can help to alleviate stress and anxiety and encourage calmness. Petra is happy to treat both women, men and couples. Where successful, acupuncture can further support a healthy pregnancy.
